Betsy has over four years of experience representing clients in complex domestic relations matters including custody, division of marital assets, maintenance, and domestic violence. Prior to working for The Law Offices of The Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago as a VISTA attorney where she focused on the representation of victims of domestic violence and divorce cases with property and financial issues. In this position she also managed the Pro Se Divorce Clinic, which taught low income, pro se litigants how to represent themselves in simple divorce cases.
From 2004 to 2008 Betsy worked as the Legal Content Coordinator at Illinois Legal Aid Online, which has been recognized as one of the nation’s foremost Internet-based resources for delivering legal information to the public. As the Legal Content Coordinator she developed and managed website content to create greater access to legal information for low income and vulnerable Illinois residents and the attorneys who serve them including state-of-the-art multimedia trainings, easy to use interactive legal documents and forms and foreign language resources as well as creating a volunteer program and conducting outreach and training around the state.
Betsy received her bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and her Juris Doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, where she was a recipient of the Scholar in Law award. During law school she interned with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Inc, the Legal Aid Society of New York, and the ACLU of Eastern Missouri. She also participated in Washington University’s nationally recognized clinic program through the Civil Rights and Community Justice Clinic.
